DATE: November 30, 2010
THUNDER BAY, ON – On November 29th 2010 Drug Enforcement Officers attended the Thunder Bay airport and arrested two males from the Toronto area who were in possession of oxycodone tablets. The investigation revealed that one of the males had a large quantity of oxycodone tablets concealed internally. Officers believe the tablets were destined for the Fort Hope and Martin Falls First Nation Territories. Officers seized 440 oxycodone tablets (80 milligram) and $970.00 in Canadian Currency.
The street value in the city of Thunder Bay of the oxycodone seized is approximately $44,000.00. The value of oxycodone tablets on remote First Nation communities is considerably higher and can be as much as 4 or 5 times greater than what it is in the city of Thunder Bay. This would put a value on the seizure at approximately $176,000.00.
Police Services throughout northwestern Ontario continue to be concerned about the prescription medication problems facing many northern First Nation communities and the social issues that surround them. They encourage anyone with information to contact their local police or Crimestoppers.
