McGuinty Government Helps Support Mining Sector, Create Jobs
Northern mining supply and services companies will learn about new opportunities to increase sales in international markets and create jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
Through the Export Readiness Training (ERT) project international experts will deliver four export development seminars from November 29 to December 2. Market overviews will be presented and participants will learn about:
- Key mining projects in Latin America and western Canada
- Customizing export strategies to access new markets
- Conducting business in Latin American markets
This is the initial component of the new Mining Supply and Services Export Assistance Program, the province’s three-year initiative to assist mining supply and services companies expand their export capacity and increase sales to international markets. A similar program is under development for the forestry sector. Both programs fall under the government’s Export Assistance for Mining and Forestry Sectors initiative. This is part of the government’s five-year Open Ontario plan to create jobs and economic opportunities in Northern Ontario.

- Northern Ontario mining supply and services sector is a large, successful industrial sector comprised of more than 500 firms and organizations with a total annual output value of $5.6 billion.
- The seminars will be held: November 29 – Thunder Bay, November 30 – Timmins, December 1 – Sudbury, and December 2 – North Bay.
