Lake Superior Gives Up Some Treasures

By Brenda Grunt, Wawa-News.com
You never know what Lake Superior will do. Last week there were waves galore crashing up on Government Dock Beach. Yesterday, it was rather calm.
Visible on the beach were remnants of the storm, shreds of wood and slabs of concrete either reappearing from beneath the sand or thrown up by the waves. A new piece of Government Dock is exposed, but this time twisted sideways.

When Marcus and I were taking pictures of the waves during the storm only a couple of the posts were exposed by the waves. Sometime during that afternoon or evening that piece of timbers were exposed.

There was a new look to the beach on Saturday, the sand structure of the beach had changed, and there were different bands of pebbles showing. Towards Rock Island the sand appears higher, perhaps the sand from the other side of the beach had been shifted there.

Usually we find lots of beach glass after a storm, but this time Kather ine only fournd one piece of green The neatest find during this stroll on the beach was a camera. Battered, lens and battery were missing and the hot pink colour nearly sanded off by the waves and sand. Amazingly though, there was still a memory card. Carefully taking it out, I slipped it into my pocket and brought the battered camera and card home.

At home, I popped the memory card into a multi-card reader… My Mac recognized the chip, and there were photos. This camera belongs to a Wawa resident who was taking pictures of the storm. The first photo with this story is from the camera. If you lost this camera, and can tell me about some of the photographs on the chip, and ID the kind of chip – I will return the camera body and chip to you.
