Greenstone OPP Updates
Longlac, ON – On October 1, 2010 the Ontario Provincial Police sent a media release which advised that police were looking for anyone who may have information about a theft from a motor vehicle in Longlac on September 22, 2010, where a camera and GPS were stolen out of an unlocked truck on Kenogami Road.
With respect to these items, two people have been charged with the offences under the criminal code. Edward BOUCHARD, 25 years of age and Wilfred SHEBAGABOW, 22 years of age, both from Long Lake 58 First Nations Territory are charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. They are required to answer to the charges in Longlac Court on December 1, 2010.
Huge Fine for Unmarked Cigarettes
Geraldton, ON – On October 26, 2010, Scott Austin SMITH, 48 years of age, of Sylvain Lake Alberta was found guilty in Provincial Offences Court for Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes.
When SMITH was stopped by officers on February 23, 2010, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and trailer where they located over 680,000 cigarettes.
SMITH has received a sentence in court in the form of a fine over $316,000.
Driver charged with Failing to Provide Breath Sample
Geraldton, ON – On October 24, 2010, officers at the Greenstone OPP Detachment were on general patrol in the Town of Geraldton when they were informed of a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a vehicle stop. It was determined by officers that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver refused to provide a sample into the approved roadside screening device. Consequently, Ruth FISHER, 34 years of age from Geraldton is charged with failing to provide a breath sample under the criminal code.
Upon conviction the charge of failing to provide a breath sample carries a minimum penalty of $1000 and a one year driving prohibition, the same penalty as impaired driving and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in your blood.
