GERALDTON VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO ARREST

On October 26, 2010, Scott Smith of Sylvan Lake, Alberta was convicted of possession of 690,000 unmarked cigarettes in the Geraldton Provincial Offences Court.
Smith was charged by the Ministry of Revenue’s Special Investigations Branch following an incident on February 24th, 2010 during which the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle near Geraldton, Ontario and discovered the unmarked cigarettes.
Smith was fined $252,810. He must also pay $63,202 to the Victims’ Justice Fund.
The unmarked cigarettes were seized and forfeited to the Ontario government.
