McGuinty Government Honours Fallen Soldiers

Ontario paid tribute to ten soldiers who made the highest sacrifice while serving our country at a moving ceremony at Queen’s Park today.

Tribute to the Fallen plaques, in remembrance of their loved ones, were presented by Premier Dalton McGuinty to the families of:

  • Sapper Brian Collier, died July 2010
  • Sergeant John Wayne Faught, died January 2010
  • Master Corporal Kristal Giesebrecht, died June 2010
  • Trooper Corey Hayes, died March 2009
  • Captain Richard Steven Leary, died June 2008
  • Lieutenant George Maurier, died July 2010
  • Private Andrew Miller, died June 2010
  • Colonel Geoffrey Parker, died May 2010
  • Trooper Larry John Rudd, died May 2010
  • Private “Tyler” William Todd, died April 2010

The soldiers honoured today were killed in Afghanistan or while on duty in Canada. All were honoured for giving their lives in service to their country.

Brigadier General Lewis, Commander Joint Task Force Central/Land Force Central Area attended the ceremony on behalf of the Canadian Forces and was accompanied by Colonel Julian Chapman, Commander 32 Canadian Brigade Group.

  • The Tribute to the Fallen was created in 2006 and includes a specially designed trillium and brass plate with a commemorative inscription.
