Progress Report Shows McGuinty Government Getting Results

The Ontario government released its seventh annual Progress Report highlighting how the Open Ontario Plan is delivering results for Ontario families.

The report shows investments in infrastructure are creating jobs during tough times and improving the quality of life for families in their communities. It also shows 35,000 four- and five-year-olds are benefiting from full-day kindergarten and nearly one million more Ontarians have access to a family doctor.

Other highlights include:

  • Tax relief for families, businesses, seniors and Northerners.
  • 200,000 more spaces for postsecondary students studying in Ontario.
  • 18 new hospitals built or under construction and another 22 major hospital construction projects underway to renew or expand existing facilities.
  • Ontario is home to 700 wind turbines and North America’s largest PV solar farm powering homes and businesses with clean energy.

QUICK FACTS

  • Since the economic recovery began, Ontario has recovered 76 per cent of jobs going from one of the provinces hardest hit by the recession to one of the fastest growing.
  • 600 schools have full-day kindergarten classrooms this year, with another 200 schools being added next year.
  • Mineral development in the Ring of Fire could mean thousands of jobs in construction and in mine operations, including significant economic opportunities for First Nation communities.
