Letter to the Editor “Thanks to Manitouwadge’
To Manitouwadge residents,
Last week Lee Stones Consultant for the Prevention of Elder Abuse North West Region and Estelle Morrill, Chair for the Schreiber/Terrace Bay Elder Abuse Prevention Committee area visited Manitouwadge. (Read the article about their official travels at http://www.OntarioNewsNorth.com/?p=18423)
Worried there may be little in the way of entertainment in the small, isolated community, we brought along books expecting to enjoy some quiet time reading at the beautiful bed and breakfast, Northern Comfort B&B, where we were staying.
To our delight we learned that a concert was being held in the High School as part of the local Nite on the Town Entertainment Series of the Arts, a Broadway star was slated to perform. Lucky coincidence, we ran into the celebrity herself, Louise Pitre, she filled us in on the type of music to be played. We were ecstatic!
We continued to tour the town, visiting all the local highlights. We had a fabulous meal at a restaurant on the main downtown street and enjoyed our waitress and her sense of humour. We could not believe the welcome in the High School parking lot when a cute little soul, a cross-fox greeted us and stayed nearby for 10 minutes while we spoke softly to him, apparently this is his favourite spot to ‘hang out’.
The evening was more than we anticipated and we smiled, laughed, and cried. We had front center seats and you could not have been happier.
We would like to say thank you to Manitouwadge for a great visit. The lecture at the hospital to the nursing staff was well attended and we must say you do have a beautiful hospital.
Thanks for the hospitality,
Estelle and Lee
