Hefty Fines For Building Road Without Permits
An Iroquois Falls man has been fined $1,500 for building a road without a permit and unlawfully installing a gate on public land.
George Lefebvre pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 for constructing a road without a permit and $500 for unlawfully depositing material on Crown Land. The court also issued a Court Order for the complete removal all deposited materials used in the construction of the road. The gate was removed prior to the court date.
Court heard that on May 13, 2010, a Conservation Officer inspected a site near Christianson Lake in Cochrane District and located a newly constructed road and a recently installed gate. An investigation revealed that a work permit had been applied for by George Lefebvre to build a road and install a gate on public lands, but was denied. Even though a permit had not been issued, Lefebvre proceeded with the work.
Justice of the Peace Dolores Boyuk heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Cochrane, on October 21, 2010.
The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that all work on Crown land must be reviewed and approved by the ministry before work begins. In its review process, the ministry considers relevant environmental, ecological and other implications before deciding whether or not to issue a permit.
