Francophonie Award Winners Honoured
McGuinty Government Celebrates Ontario’s Francophone Community
Three individuals are being honoured for their contributions to the vitality of the province’s Francophone community.
The recipients of this year’s Ontario Francophonie Awards are:
- Jean Comtois, Francophone Award
- Kenneth McRoberts, Francophile Award
- Christopher Sisto, Youth Award
The awards were presented as part of the 100th anniversary Gala of the Assemblée de la Francophonie de l’Ontario (AFO). The Francophonie Awards were created in 2006 and are given out every two years.
Since 2003, the province has made a commitment to strengthen the Francophone community in Ontario. Investments in institutions like Boréal College, La Cité College and Montfort Hospital are part of the Open Ontario Plan to deliver results for Ontario families.

- Almost 600,000 Francophones live in Ontario — the largest French-speaking community in Canada outside Quebec.
- This marks the first year for the youth award, which recognizes an exceptional young Francophone or Francophile under the age of 25.
- The first Franco-Ontarian Day was celebrated on September 25, 2010. It marks the anniversary of the first raising of the Franco-Ontarian Flag in 1975.
