Clothing Swap, Book Fair and Open House at St.Martin’s
St. Martin Hosts Spring Clothing Swap
TERRACE BAY, ON – Wednesday, September 22nd St. Martin hosted their bi-annual clothing swap. The swap continues to generate a considerable amount of interest in both Terrace Bay and Schreiber. For several weeks parents from the communities brought children and adult clothing, maternity clothes, winter apparel, shoes/boots, etc to the school. Event organizer, Kathie Shermack sorted the clothing according to gender and size then had it arranged for display in the gym.
Parents were encouraged to drop in and ‘shop’ for their children; the intent being for parents to “bring what they could and take what they needed”! Many children also attended and were thrilled to shop for their own ‘new’ clothes. With the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Shermack we were again able to bring this exciting experience to our community. This event continues to grow in size as the donations grew to a total of 70 garbage bags full of items that were on display last night! Clothing that remained at the end of the evening was donated to Schreiber Thrift Shop.
Start saving your children’s clothes and join us for our next clothing swap to be held in the Spring!
Open House
September 22nd also marked the Annual St. Martin School Open House and Book Fair from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Parents, students, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends all had the opportunity to visit the school, check out the classrooms, and meet the teachers. Students kept busy leading their guests around to show them interesting aspects of their classrooms, including the newly implemented Promethean Boards in most of the classrooms. Afterwards they had the opportunity to visit, snack, and browse the book fair.
We are very excited that the new school year is well underway and encourage parents to continue their visits within the learning environment of St. Martin School.
