Businesses Launched at SNCFDC Mini-Trade Show
TERRACE BAY, ON – Thursday, October 7th, Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation held a mini-trade show at their offices in Terrace Bay to help launch seven new businesses owned by entrepreneurs who participated in their Self-Employment Benefit (SEB) Program, which was offered with funding from Employment Ontario through the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.
Participants of Superior SEB included entrepreneurs from Manitouwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Lonlac who were for various reasons, unemployed and had good ideas for new products or services they wanted to develop in to businesses. SEB Program Coordinator Linda Chiupka facilitated their learning about all aspects of business start-up, ensuring the students would be well equipped and familiarized with many of the services and/or organizations they would need to work with in the launch of their new businesses. The step-by-step program helped develop participants’ self-employment business concept; as they acquired the skills and knowledge to plan, implement, market and run their business successfully.
With the official part of their studies now completed and their businesses registered, each of the entrepreneurs said they felt confident they had the tools, knowledge and support needed to continue growing their new businesses; these included School of Rock, offering music lessons and sales of instruments to budding musicians of all ages; Footstomp Fightwear & Apparel, which hopes to add equipment and training garb to their existing banded clothing line; Lone Wolf Computers, a computer repair and diagnostic service; Mijellen Home Renovations; Victorious Imports & Exports; and a Manitouwadge based natural baby clothing and product vendor with some beautiful knit wear for little ones.
During the meet and greet, the students were happy to hear testimony from another SEB graduate who continues to reap the rewards of having launched his business with the help of the program. Congratulations to the new entrepreneurs!
