Diabetes Health Fair Manitouwadge & CNIB Van
MANITOUWADGE, Ontario – Thursday, September 9th the CNIB Eye Van began seeing Manitouwadge clients from the rear parking lot of the Recreation Centre as Certified Diabetes Educator Jackie Jung RN, for the Manitouwadge Diabetes Health and Wellness Program, conducted drop-in diabetes screening and education from inside the Recreation Centre; this is all part of the CNIB’s partnership initiative with the Northern Diabetes Health Network which OntarioNewsNorth.com announced this past spring (http:///www.OntarioNewsNorth.com/11373).
Jung had a wide variety of printed materials with information for those concerned about and/or living with diabetes, give-a-ways like plate sized fridge magnets which illustrate healthy portion sizes, pratical for anyone looking to focus on a healthier lifestyle, there is also a daily cookbook draw.
The Diabetes Health Fair continues this week with free workshops, open to the public, being offered by Jung and her colleague from Marathon, Registered Dietitian Pearl Giuliano. Monday, Giuliano offered two workshops; ‘Facts on Food Labels’ and ‘What’s a Carb’ were both well attended. Tuesday and Thursday, at 1:30, join Jung for the ‘Conversation Map’ education sessions there will be plenty of great info for people living with diabetes, their caregivers and others wanting to live healthier lifestyles.
Drop-Ins are open daily from 8:30am – 11:30am and 1:30pm – 4:30pm.
