Back 2 School Safety – OPP

OPP Remind Motorists of Back to School Safety
Another summer is coming to an end and students are heading back to school. The Ontario Provincial Police reminds all members of the community that we all play a role in helping keep our kids safe.
The OPP suggests several ways everyone can help increase the safety of children as they venture to and from school.
- Drivers need to slow down. Reducing your speed gives you more time to react and avoid child pedestrian collisions.
- Keep a safe distance from buses and be patient in your travels. Buses are required to make frequent stops and the children need time to cross roadways safely.
- Distractions are dangerous – drivers, put away cell phones and remind children to take off ear buds before crossing the street.
- Teach your child to stop at the curb, look left, right and left again.
- Spend time with your children and talk to them about pedestrian safety and being alert to vehicles travelling on the roadway.
The Ontario Provincial Police will continue to make traffic safety a priority. Our officers will be patrolling school zones and conducting traffic enforcement as always. Our goal is to ensure that all children are safe as they venture to and from their schools.
