Sudbury bids farewell to Summer Games
Ontario Summer Games Make History in Greater Sudbury
Sudbury, August 9th, 2010 ~ Volunteers and organizers began to see the rewards of two years of hard work when close to 3,000 of the province’s finest young athletes arrived in Greater Sudbury this week to compete in 32 sporting events at the Ontario Summer Games, which continued through Friday, August 13th .

Opening ceremonies hosted by Olympian Tessa Bonhomme and Ottawa Senators’ player Nick Foligno took place Tuesday, August 10th at Laurentian University. It was a unique opportunity for all competitors to gather at one site enjoyed by all. Shuttles transported the many spectators into Greater Sudbury.
“The City of Greater Sudbury is proud to have successfully hosted the 2010 Ontario Summer Games,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor John Rodriguez.
Commemorative pins which gained entry to the Opening Ceremonies as well as all Games events were very popular though single day passes available for just $5 offered an affordable option for those interested in specific events.
“There was a lot of excitement surrounding these Games,” said John Roberts and Dan Lee, Co-Chairs of the Games. “Athletes trained extremely hard to get to this level, volunteers worked tirelessly and the entire community experienced the blood, sweat and cheers of a fantastic provincial event!”
Many dignitaries expressed their Congratulations to the City of Greater Sudbury for having presented such an incredible event showcasing Northern Ontario to the rest of the province reminding them of all the region has to offer!
The Ontario Summer Games are a program of the Ministry of Health Promotion and delivered by the Sport Alliance of Ontario.
