New Fire on Deadhorse West of Marathon

There was one new fire confirmed today located on the Deadhorse Road in the Nipigon District just west of Marathon. This fire is small at 0.1ha and the cause is lightning.
One Incident Management Team departed from Dryden today bound Kamloops, British Columbia. They will join the 271 Ontarians already in British Columbia fighting fire together to help save homes, properties, values, and forests. All personnel that were deployed to Manitoba, safely returned home this afternoon and will recycle their gear and be ready to go to British Columbia if need be.
The West Fire Region has 41 people contributing to the forest fire suppression efforts La Ronge, Pelican Narrows, and Danere Beach, Saskatchewan. The areas have received scattered thunder storms and minimal rainfall.

Requests for assistance for other provinces and territories are coordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) in Winnipeg. Sufficient fire fighting personnel, equipment and aircraft remain in Ontario to meet current and forecast fire demands here. Ontario resources are stationed at several locations in British Columbia’s interior.
