MGH Hospital Happenings
MGH receives grant from SNCFDC for display equipment
The hospital was fortunate to receive a grant from Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation in the amount of $4,922.87 to design and purchase display equipment that will used to recruit medical professionals at job fairs. It will also be used for educational community functions as needed such as career days for schools, open houses for public functions, health fairs, etc.
The system comprises of a 10X10 display with high quality graphics promoting working at Manitouwadge General Hospital and living in Manitouwadge. Two banner displays accentuate the larger floor display to direct traffic and focus to the main display. The design and photo preparations were all completed in house to keep costs to a minimum. Assistance from the Manitouwadge Economic Development in providing photos greatly enhanced the nature images of the displays.
The materials will also be used to promote healthy living with modifiable message components. Anyone who has spent time setting up displays at career fairs will acknowledge the value of a system that is high quality, sets up quickly and can be changed over time to deliver targeted messages. This system does that very well.
The hospital was pleased to have their project selected from Superior North Community Futures Development Corporation which is funded by FedNor. “In these times of fiscal restraints, the hospital could not have funded such a quality display” said Interim CEO Judi Harris. “With the competition for professionals in the north, having a good display can make the difference between making that key contact or not” added Debbie Hardy, Chief Nursing Officer.
Famous Toronto Argonauts # 51 visits MGH
On August 6th, Raymond Fontaine, linebacker for the Toronto Argonauts stopped into the MGH physiotherapy department. Physiotherapist James Neale was pleased to consult with such a famous sports star especially since James is a football fanatic.
Despite not finding many other die hard football fans to talk to, Fontaine was most gracious to explain his career to date. On February 15, 2010, the Argos extended his contract and he is on active status although he missed this week’s game against Edmonton.
Besides playing for the Argonauts for five years, the 29 year old 2006 Rookie of the Year recipient played for Kentucky. He was born in Ottawa, speaks four languages, has degrees in Marketing Communications and Agriculture Economics with a minor in Business Management. During the off season, he usually works for the Argos front office, but this past off-season, he worked as a roughneck in the Alberta oil sands.
After visiting Manitouwadge, Fontaine was off to Rossport before going to Thunder Bay to fly back to Toronto.
