There were two new fires reported in the East Fire Region on August 8.
Sault Ste. Marie 31, near Goulais, was 0.1 hectares in size. It has since been called out. Kirkland Lake 17, a 0.1 hectare fire, has also been called out.
So far on August 9, two new fires have been confirmed. Cochrane 35, south of the James Bay coast, was ignited by lightning and is not under control at 0.1 hectares in size. Sault Ste. Marie 32, a human caused fire near Sand Bay, has been called out.
More resources have been dispatched to British Columbia, an Incident Management Team departed from the West Fire Region on August 9.
Ontario now has 291 fire personnel in British Columbia in addition to 20 staff in Manitoba and 41 in Saskatchewan for a total of 352 Ontario fire personnel out of province. This includes FireRanger crews, Incident Management Teams, fire specialists and overhead staff. Ontario is also providing equipment to the western provinces such as pumps, fire hoses and sprinkler systems for values protection.
Requests for assistance for other provinces and territories are coordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) in Winnipeg. Sufficient fire fighting personnel, equipment and aircraft remain in Ontario to meet current and forecast fire demands here. Ontario resources are stationed at several locations in British Columbia’s interior.

Residents are reminded that if found responsible for a forest fire, they can be charged under the Forest Fires Prevention Act and/or be liable for the costs of suppressing the fire. This cost can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars.
