Juventus Defeat Chill to Clinch Playoff and Regiment Cup
(Thunder Bay, Ontario) – Thunder Bay Italia Juventus raised the Playoff and Regiment Cup Trophies at Chapples Park Sunday night, after defeating the Thunder Bay Chill Reserves 6-2 in the deciding leg of the 2010 Premier Soccer League of Thunder Bay (PSL) playoffs. Juventus, who won the regular season, won the two game, total goal series 8-4 on aggregate, after tying the Reserves 2-2 in the first leg this past Thursday.
Jon Potvin started out the scoring for Juventus in the 2nd minute, after being sent in on a breakaway and beating Reserve keeper Cristian Pilat. In what was almost an identical goal, Potvin gave his team a two goal lead in the 26th minute. The Reserves cut the lead to one in the 30th minute, when Jonathon Czackowski bent a free kick into the top corner of the net past Juventus keeper Jonathan DeGrazia. Skander Babay restored the two goal lead for Juventus in the 33rd minute after converting a penalty shot. Cameron Wilson scored in the 64th minute for the Reserves, but that was as close as they would get as Juventus went on to take control of the game and score three more unanswered goals. Juventus Defender Angelo Papa was shown a red card and sent off in the 79th minute, after receiving his second yellow card of the game.
The PSL would like to thank all of fans, media, and sponsors for a very successful inaugural season. Stay tuned for more updates as the league moves into its first ever indoor season in fall 2010.
