Manitouwadge Kids Celebrate Fun, Friends and Faith during Crocodile Dock
by Vickie Russard
MANITOUWADGE, ON – August 20th marked the end of a very busy week at Bethany Pentecostal Church in Manitouwadge. Children aged 5-11 where invited to attend Vacation Bible School (VBS) called Crocodile Dock. Smiling faces were everywhere – children enjoyed action songs, games and a variety of crafts while learning that God is in control.
A youth group, their pastor and his family (three boys ages 8, 4, and 1) from Ingersoll left home at 7:30am, Saturday August 14th pulling into Manitouwadge at 1:00am on Sunday morning. Thanks to this group, at church that morning, everyone was amused to learn that puppets could groove and move. Pastor Scott Murray introduced his wife Doretta and their crew and filled us in on what would be happening for the week. I didn’t think it possible to have “Minute To Win It” games played during a Sunday service, or that eating an Oreo cookie could be difficult, or amusing to watch, but Pastor Scott made it happen.
Boy, what a week it was! An average of around 35 kids showed up each day, enjoying the exciting and fun things to do presented by the team from Highway Pentecostal Church.
Monday they were taught that God got Moses attention one day with a burning bush…that didn’t burn up. If you’d like to learn more about that story, it can be found in your Bible, Exodus 3:1-4:17, or also at www.biblegateway.com.
Tuesday participants learned why God sent the first nine plagues on Egypt. Pharaoh sure was hard headed cause I personally would have given in and let His people go once the water turned to blood but no, not him. More of that story in Exodus 7:1-10:29.
Wednesday Crocodile Dockers learned about the very last plague, and how God protected His people from it. God told Moses to have each household select a lamb to be sacrificed so its blood could protect them from death. This part of the Bible can be found in Exodus 11:1-12:42.
Thursday’s lesson was without doubt the most important ‘For just as the blood of the lamb spared the Israelites, Jesus’s blood spares us’. Without Jesus being willing to sacrifice His blood, our sins would condemn us to death, but, because He died for us we can live forever in Heaven with Him. The kids learned that Jesus didn’t just die, He rose again and spent time with His people to show them He was the Messiah they where waiting for, and that He was the way to eternal life. Please feel free to check this out for yourself Matthew 27:11:28:10.
Exodus 14:1-15:21 will let you know what the children of Manitouwadge learned on Friday. It tells of yet another time when God saved His people, this time by parting the Red Sea.
Thank you to our new friends from Ingersoll and to all the very enthusiastic participants who made this a very special week full of fun, friends and faith!
A family BBQ followed, and included face painting and more games.
Many times throughout the year the people of Bethany Pentecostal Church open their arms with different events to welcome in the town in hopes of showing them just how awesome God is and to show them His love. If you’ve never been to one of these events or haven’t been to a church in a while, please, come on over – we’d love to have you drop by and visit. The next big event is happening on Sept 19th; Light House Ministry in song with Roger and Shirley Pavey will be at the church at 10:30am to share with us their talent.
If you have any questions, about up coming events, or the things God promises us, please feel free to call Pastor Gary at 807-826-4755.
