Weekend Update – Nipigon OPP

(NIPIGON, ON.) –Nipigon and Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued 43 Provincial Offence Notices and responded to 37 calls for service during the weekend of July 16 to July 18, 2010.  Officers conducted four R.I.D.E. checks and investigated two motor vehicle collisions.

Schreiber OPP arrested and charged a driver with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operate a Motor Vehicle with more than 80 milligrams Blood Alcohol Content, contrary to the Criminal Code, on July 16 at approximately 10:45 p.m.  Richard SIEDMAN, the 53 year old male driver of Schreiber, Ontario, was arrested at a R.I.D.E. check on Alberta Street, Schreiber.  SEIDMAN is to appear at Schreiber Court on September 29 to answer to the charges.

On July 16 at approximately 11:45 p.m. a male attended a R.I.D.E. check at Subway Street, Schreiber that resulted in charges.  The 19 year old male driver of Terrace Bay, Ontario was issued a three day drivers license suspension for operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 50 milligrams.  The driver was further issued Provincial Offence Notices for operating a motor vehicle with a G2 license while having a blood alcohol concentration above zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and for operating a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor License Act.

Schreiber OPP conducted a R.I.D.E. check at Scotia Street, Schreiber on July 17 at 4:50 a.m. that resulted in a three day drivers license suspension for a 22 year old male Schreiber resident.  The driver was issued a suspension for operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over 50 milligrams.  The driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for failing to surrender a driver’s license contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

On July 18 at 2:30 p.m. Schreiber OPP attended a single vehicle collision at Hwy 17, Town of Terrace Bay, at the Aguasabon River bridge.  The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to leave the roadway, roll, and then come to rest on the shoulder of the highway.  The 60 year old male driver of Calgary, Alberta and the vehicle passenger were transported to McCausland Hospital by ambulance for non life threatening injuries.  The driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Schreiber OPP are currently investigating a mischief that occurred at Terrace Heights Drive, Terrace Bay.  On July 18 at 4:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to a residence on Terrace Heights Drive to a mischief in progress call.  Suspects had fled the scene prior to police arrival after damaging property at the residence.  Police investigation is continuing.
