Police Remind Motorist To Adapt Their Driving To Conditions
NIPIGON, ON – During the weekend of July 2 to July 4, 2010 Nipigon/Schreiber Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) issued 55 Provincial Offence Notices and responded to 38 calls for service. Officers conducted one RI.D.E. check and investigated four motor vehicle collisions.
On Friday July 2, 2010 at 16:40 (4:40pm) Schreiber OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 17 at Whitesand River, Township of Killraine. The driver of a Sport Utility Vehicle left the roadway, went down and embankment, rolled and became submerged in the Whitesand River. The 78 year old female driver of Terrace Bay Ontario was transported to McCausland Hospital for serious injuries.
On Friday July 2 at 16:44 (4:44pm) Nipigon OPP attended motor vehicle collision on Hwy 11 near the MacDiarmid turnoff. A vehicle left the roadway and rolled over onto the side of the road. The 43 year old male driver of Edmonton, Alberta was charged for Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.
On Saturday July 3 at 04:32 (4:32am) a traffic complaint in the town of Red Rock was reported to Nipigon OPP. A resident reported to police that erratic driving ofo a vehicle had caused damage to open property in the Stewart Avenue area. Police investigation concluded with a 30 year old male resident of Red Rock being charged with Mischief Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The male is to appear in Nipigon court on August 31 to answer to the charge.
Nipigon OPP attended the Red Rock Mill site to investigate a break and enter that occurred sometime before July3, 2010. Suspects attended the Red Rock Mill site and damaged equipment and property at the scene. Numerous items were stolen. The police investigation is continuing.

On July 4th at approximately 20:45 (8:45pm) a Schreiber OPP officer conducted a traffic stop at Hwy 17, Sylne Township, Jackfish Hill for excessive speed. The 36 year old male driver of Sherwood Park, Alberta was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. At 21:17 (9:17pm), a Nipigon OPP officer stopped the same vehicle at Hwy 17, Township of Priske, for excessive speed. Due to fog conditions causing poor visibility, the driver was charged with Careless Driving and Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
