Tomorrow, Celebrate Canada Parks Day at Northshore Parks
McGuinty Government Invites You To Special Parks Events On Saturday, July 17
July 17 marks Canada’s Parks Day and Ontario’s provincial parks invite Ontarians to celebrate this occasion with special events and activities for the whole family.
Events include:
- White Lake Provincial Park – Sat. Beginning at 2pm there will be Parks Day events hosted by NHE (Natural Heritage Educators) Staff in the Main Day Use Area
- Neys Provincial Park has a day full of events planned, these include Bird Bonanza beginning at the visitors’ centre at 9am; Mammal Mania at the Picnic Area at the Little Pic 2pm; and Variety is the Spice of Life with NHE George Timmerman at the Visitors’ Centre at 7:30pm.
- Kakabeka Falls – Compete in the Kakabeka Falls Amazing Race, near Thunder Bay
- Esker Lakes – Take a guided hike and learn about the Boreal forest and biodiversity, near Cochrane
- French River – Enjoy a celebration of the French River and Aboriginal culture, close to Sudbury
- Awenda – Learn about Awenda’s incredible biodiversity and species at risk, close to Penetanguishene
- The Pinery – Near Grand Bend, enjoy the Savanna Festival and learn about the park’s rare oak savanna

- There are 329 provincial parks in Ontario. More than 100 parks provide visitor facilities.
- Last year, 9.5 million visits were made by people from around the world to Ontario Parks. Many Ontario Parks provide barrier-free facilities.
- Seven Ontario provincial parks celebrate 50th anniversaries this year: Blue Lake, Caliper Lake, Killbear, Marten River, Pigeon River, Sturgeon Bay and Ivanhoe Lake.
- 2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity.
