Lake Superior Day in Terrace Bay

TERRACE BAY,ON – Over 200 residents and tourists came out to celebrate the annual Lake Superior Day at the Terrace Bay Beach Sunday, July 18th, 2010. 

Some tourists from as far away as Kingston and Chicago were pulled off the highway to enjoy the event.  Activities included a volunteer beach cleanup and free short charters and kayaking with the goal of increasing enjoyment of Lake Superior.  Mayor Mike King said “Terrace Bay believes strongly in celebrating this provincial holiday and the success of this years event was due to the great partnership with Parks Canada, EcoSuperior, Environment Canada, and the Lake Superior Binational Program.  Information booths were also set up to educate the public on Lake Superior, remediation efforts in areas of concern, and on invasive species and way people can protect the Great Lakes.   Jody Davis, the Chair of the Interim  Management Board for the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area and a Terrace Bay Councilor was present at the event.  “Everyone had a great time with the amazing weather and wide range of activities and education,” said Davis.  Visitors were treated to other activities including hiking, kids games, volleyball, and great food from local business Superior Dining.
