Katimavik in Your Community
SCHREIBER, ON – Monday, July 12th the Katimavik Crew helped serve food at a community Fish Fry. Afterwards they were also on hand to help with clean-up. Thanks to the Katimavik Group for their ongoing contributions to Northshore communities!
Catching up on more recent news from Katmavik …
We visited Ouimet Canyon on June 5th just as the Katimavik group to explore and learn a bit more about the Northern Ontario climate. Coming from Yellowknife it was interesting to find out that there was arctic flowers at the bottom of the canyon.
The Cooking workshop took place on July 8th. For a lot of people in the group coming into Katimavik having to cook their own meals or having to cook for 11 people was something new. So we decided to have Sam Mattard the local butcher/excellent chef come over and teach us how to cook bread, strudel, ravioli, lasagna and home made pasta noodles.
Amethyst mining we did July 26th. It was a chance for the group to learn more about the region, living and working in Terrace Bay and Schreiber the participants seem to forget about other industries in the region such as mining.
For the Thunder Bay Franco-Festival the Katimavik groups from Terrace Bay and the Thunder Bay came together to assist helping out with admissions, concessions, and take down after the festival.
Test and Tune happened on June 19th and 20th as volunteers we helped que up the cars for the race track, give out time slips to the drivers, admissions and helped input car information into the race track software.
At Aguasabon golf course three volunteers Bailey, Stephen, Thierry had their day time placements there. They were responsible for painting and staining the club house and deck.
