East & West Regions Forest Fire Situation Update
East Fire Region

No new fires were reported on July 19. Two fires have been confirmed today, July 20. Sudbury 127, in the Garson area, is 0.1 hectares in size. Chapleau 30 is a lightning fire in the Montreal River area that is not under control at 4.5 hectares in size. There are no problems anticipated with either new fire.
Campfires are part of enjoying the outdoors, however, each year campfires cause many wildfires. To ensure your campfire doesn’t become a wildfire make sure you check for local restrictions, use a designated fire pit if one is available, keep water and a shovel nearby, never leave your fire unattended and make sure your campfire is completely extinguished before leaving the site.

Residents are reminded that if found responsible for a forest fire, they can be charged under the Forest Fires Prevention Act and/or be liable for the costs of suppressing the fire. This cost can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

West Fire Region

There were no new fires reported in the West Fire Region by evening of July 20.
The number of active fires in the West Fire Region remains at 13, with five in the Nipigon District, one in the Red Lake District and seven in the Sioux Lookout District. No problems have been reported with these fires. Most are located in the north and are being monitored.
More rain is in the forecast and the fire hazard is low across the central portion of the region and moderate in the south and north. The exception is the far northern sectors of Sioux Lookout and Nipigon Districts which are recording a high hazard. The forecast is calling for this high hazard to continue in the far north through to mid-week.
