McGuinty Government Supporting New Jobs and Business Partnerships
More Aboriginal communities have the resources they need to create jobs, develop business partnerships and expand economic opportunities through their communities
The province is continuing its support for the New Relationship Fund. It was launched in 2008 to help First Nations communities and Métis organizations develop the resources, capacity and skills necessary to enhance and improve business and economic-development partnership opportunities.
These Aboriginal communities will now receive consistent funding over the next four years to allow them to develop and deliver long-term economic strategies.
To date, about 250 projects involving First Nations communities, Métis communities and urban Aboriginal organizations have received funding under the New Relationship Fund, creating more than 200 jobs.
This initiative is part of the five-year Open Ontario plan. Creating new jobs and fostering successful partnerships between Aboriginal communities, industry and government on economic, lands and resource initiatives are critical to building a strong foundation for Ontario’s economy.
