West Fire Region
Friday, July 23, 2010
There were no new fires reported in the West Fire Region by the evening of July 23, but a smoke was reported about 25 kilometers northwest of the community of Kingfisher Lake in the far north of the Sioux Lookout District. Bad weather prevented an aerial reconnaissance of the fire July 23 so, pending weather on July 24, another flight will be attempted.
Heavy rain was reported across the southern portions of the region, dropping the fire hazard to low and moderate, but only trace amounts were recorded in the far north.
An aerial reconnaissance and fire assessment over Sioux Lookout Fire Number 63, a 300 hectare fire located about 40 kilometres northeast of the community of Sachigo Lake in the far north, determined that the fire will be monitored as it is not threatening any values and it will help regenerate the area as a natural process.
Two fires were also declared out in the Sioux Lookout District.
Partial clearing is forecast for the western sectors by early afternoon July 23, leaving the balance of the region cloudy with a few showers and a possible risk of thunderstorms.
