West Fire Region

Friday, June 04, 2010

June 4, 2010 and still no new fires to report in the West Fire Region. Most of the region received rain in the last 24 hours and more is in the forecast.  Lightening was detected in the Greenstone District near the north shore of Lake Superior and inland towards Gravel River Conservation Reserve, no fires have been detected as of yet.

Red Lake Fire 26 is showing no fire behaviour at this time and resources continue to be removed from that fire.

Red Lake Fire 32 is Being Held as of 12pm today, this means that no other resources will be needed and the fire is not expected to spread beyond its current boundaries. The fire has died down to smouldering at 4417ha. All camp gear and most equipment have been pulled from the fire except hand tools. More rain is expected to cover the fire; there was 6.6mm in the rain gauge as of 3:00pm today

The eight monitored fires caused by lightening, continue to burn with no problems anticipated. These remote fires will help to rejuvenate those specific ecosystems without harm or discomfort to the public, property or values.

In the East Fire Region at 12:01 am today there were portions of the Restricted Fire Zone rescinded.  Areas west of Wawa such as Pic River, Marathon, Manitouwadge, and White River are no longer under the Restricted Fire Zone. However, it remains in effect for the Sault St. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay areas due to lack of rain. For more information about the East Fire Region Restricted Fire Zone call the Information Hotline 1-866-357-8422.
