MANITOUWADGE, ON – June 9th, 2010 – Students at Manitouwadge High School were prompted, by Principal Brian Johnson, to gather outside this morning for a very special ceremony in memory of Jamie Lee Hoban, a Manitouwadge High School student and athlete, whose life tragically ended September 4th, 2009.
Johnson said a few words, remembering what an exceptional young woman Jamie Lee had been. A group of close friends and teammates, led by Keisha Drapeau, planted a young lilac tree in a pre-dug hole, each adding soil in turn. With the planting completed, Johnson once again addressed the group; he encouraged those in attendance which included not only students but also parents and members of the community who had known or loved Jamie Lee, to be reminded of Jamie each time they look upon the tree and to use it as a reminder to share memories of Jamie with those who might not otherwise know of her.
He then requested a moment of silence in remembrance of Jamie Lee.
