Specialist Course Students Sell Healthy Lunch

MANITOUWADGE, ON – The Hospitality and Tourism class at Manitouwadge High School, a Dual Credit Course, offered students an opportunity to purchase lunch from a unique, menu Friday, June 4th.
Under the tutelage of Confederation College Instructor, Nutritionist Andrea Richard, they prepared and sold a variety of healthy wraps and smoothies. Richard and MHS teacher Wayne Pitman have collaborated this semester, as they alternated, each teaching a week at a time.
The Hospitality and Tourism Class is among the High Skills Major/Dual Credit Programs offered at MHS. These courses give students an opportunity to earn a college credit, in this case Healthy Cooking Made Easy, in addition to their course’s high school credit, giving them a head start entering college or university. The students also benefited from the opportunity to watch
Grade 10 student, Natasha Lelievre, found this week especially valuable as she plans to focus her post secondary studies on Culinary Arts to become a chef and ealier in the week students had also received instruction from a professional Chef from Confederation College, Chef Sgambellvri “Having this opportunity to be taught by professionals from Confederation College has solidified my interest in culinary arts, it has been a great experience and has helped me narrow my choices for post secondary schools down to Confederation and one other college” said Lelievre.
