Terrace Bay Downtown Update
The momentum of the Terrace Bay Downtown Revitalization Project has slowed a bit due to the recent tendering of the project which returned bids higher than the budget. The Municipality received three bids on the Simcoe Plaza renovation work and one bid on the construction of the 50 foot lighthouse attraction and one bid on the creation of marketing signage. From here, the Township will negotiate with the sole bidder on the lighthouse attraction and marketing signage which need minor adjustments to fall within budget. These projects will then begin as soon as possible after the contract is awarded. The Simcoe Plaza renovations will need more work to come close to the budget and the Municipality will try to make changes that do not affect the overall intent of the project. Once an adequate number of changes have been made, the project will be reissued to the three companies that bid on the Simcoe Plaza section and hopefully be awarded within 2-3 weeks. Council and administration are dedicated to ensuring this vital project is completed this year, but with the current state of the Terrace Bay economy they do not want to exceed the budget. Once the contract for the Simcoe Plaza renovations have been awarded, the Municipality will be holding a public forum to outline in detail all phases of the project and the schedule.
