MANITOUWADGE
, ON – 06.05.10 Competitors from Marathon, Manitouwadge, Schreiber, Pic Mobert and White River wrapped up 2 weeks of competition Thursday evening as a buffet-style banquet was held at the Manitouwadge Golden Age Club celebrating the challenges and successes of 2 weeks of competition during the 2010 Superior District 3B Senior Summer Games.
Nearly a dozen events were planned in Manitouwadge, organizer Ron Sheppard coordinated volunteers for several card games, carpet bowling, shuffle board, darts and others while Terry Cooper was responsible for organizing bowling, the only event planned for Marathon for which their were sufficient participants.
From May 20th through June 4th athletes and card sharks faced off against new friends and old. Gold medal recipients qualified to move on to the bi-annual Actifest competition this August in Oshawa.
The banquet ended with draws for door prizes, Manitouwadge businesses had generously provided sufficient gifts for all participants. Both Sheppard and Cooper addressed the group in turn, thanking both participants their enthusiasm and sportsmanship, and recognizing volunteers for their efforts and contributions. Cooper announced the details of Actifest participation, events for which Gold Medal winners decline the opportunity to travel are then represented by the next available competitor in order of ranking; thanks to the support of Barrick Gold Corporation 10 additional seats will be available for non-competitors allowing athletes the option of having a companion to travel with and cheer them on in Oshawa. Cooper also spoke to the group regarding Superior District 3B Senior’s declining membership in recent years encouraging those in attendance to invite friends or neiighbours 50+ to their local seniors groups with a reminder that the Northshore’s very active seniors are about much more than just card games!
Good Luck indeed, OntarioNewsNorth.com add it congratulations to this as well, confident that we will be well represented by the best our region has in Oshawa this August!
