Ontario Receives Annual Report On French-Language Services
McGuinty Government Supporting Ontario’s Francophone Community
A report that will help Ontario build on its commitment to improving French-language services was received today from the province’s French Language Services Commissioner.
Commissioner François Boileau congratulated the government on actions that have helped improve the delivery of French-language services in the last year, including:
- The publication of the Profile of Ontario’s Francophone Community in December 2009
- The adoption of a regulation allowing the creation of French-language healthcare planning entities
- Two new shelters for Francophone women in Toronto and Timmins
- The creation of the video FLS and You to raise awareness about the requirements of the French Language Services Act with Ontario Public Service employees.

- The Office of the French Language Services Commissioner was created in 2007. It has a mandate, under the French Language Services Act, to conduct independent investigations in response to complaints or on its own initiative; to prepare reports on its investigations; and to monitor the progress made by government agencies in the delivery of French-language services in Ontario.
