MP Mike Brown Acknowledges International Trail Day
Recognizing International Trail Day, Algoma-Manitoulin MP Mike Brown Encourages Constituents to Enjoy Riding Trails Today
Today (June 5th) is International Trails Day, in recognition of this annual celebration encouraging people in communities worldwide to get outdoors, be active and enjoy their natural environment. Algoma-Manitoulin MP Mike Brown remembered those responsible for the creation and maintenance of the many trails of his riding, “I would like to thank all of the volunteers and community organizations for their hard work and dedication in making and maintaining the trails, and I would encourage everyone to get out and enjoy them not just today but as part of an active lifestyle!” said Brown.
Brown is no stranger to the trails, for more than a decade his annual Snow Tour has been introducing Northern Ontario Trails to new users, facilitating conversations between his constituents and the provincial politicians they might not otherwise have personal access to, on the OFSC trails of his northern Ontario riding.
During this time, more than 30 Ministers, including those responsible or assisting with ministries such as Transportation, Northern Development Mines and Forestry, Health and Long Term Care, Energy and Infrastructure, Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs, Children and Youth Services, and Tourism, have participated in the Mike Brown Snow Tour learning about the challenges of Northern Ontario trail development and experiencing first hand the many benefits of these trails to the communities they unite. During the 2010 Snow Tour, by day three of their work in Wawa, Ontario, delegates had traveled more than 300km via snowmobile on the trails of the OFSC.
Ontario’s diverse network of world-class trails provide many opportunities for people to be active in every season, providing affordable and accessible venues for many activities whether experiencing heritage trails on city sidewalks; cross-country skiing, jogging, or cycling, on all season trails; snowmobiling on the trails of local snowmobile clubs and the OFSC; horseback riding on rural trails; or, enjoying water activities like canoeing and kayaking, Ontario’s 88,000 km trails system has something for everyone.
If you are interested in trails in your community the Honourable Margarett Best, Ontario Minister of Health Promotion encourages Ontarians to visit the Ontario Trails Council website at http://www.ontariotrails.on.ca for more information. The website offers a wealth of information on trail regions and activities across Ontario. In recognition of Interenational Trails Day, Best added that “I hope that tomorrow, many Ontarians will take the opportunity to get outside, spend some quality time with family or friends and enjoy all that Ontario’s trails have to offer!”
