MHS Teacher Says Goodbye
MANITOUWADGE, ON -Wednesday, June 9th 2010 Students and teachers at Manitouwadge High School gathered in the auditorium to recognze a very special woman who, during her 28 years at MHS (of 29 total years as a teacher) has had an incredibly positive influence on many students.
GG Jones has, in addition to teaching, been very active as a coach on countless Wolverines teams, for the chearleading program she had coordinated in years past, and for various other after school activities.
Prinicipal Brian Johnson presented Jones with a gift, a token of appreciation for her dedication throughout her nearly three decades at MHS, from the Superior Greenstone District School Board before announcing that the school also had somethingto pesent. The stage curtains opened, leaving Jones in disbelief as a beautiful canoe was unveiled. The watercraft had been refinishsed after weeks of effort by Johnson, students and others from the school and painted in the school colours, Grey and Marroon, and topped-off with the school masicot a Wolverine at the helm.
Reminiscing during her acceptance speach, Jones spoke of having enjoyed that many kids, including her own two children (now adults), had benefitted from the opportunty to have been first taught at Manitouwade Public School by her husband Othello Jones, then by herself at MHS providing a smooth transition between the two.
As Jones finished her speech, attendees broke into a roar of applause and a standing ovation; a show of respect and admiraton to a woman who has enriched the lives of many students during her years at MHS

Also recognized at the assembly were student Colby Gascon for having perfect attendance throughout the 2009-10 school year (photo above); Custodian Dale Gaspar for 10 years of dedicated service at MHS ; as Johnson put it “Keeping the school in immaculate conditon”. (photo below).
