More Than 200 Additional Schools In 2011 Will Help Kids Prepare For Grade 1
More Ontario families will be able to send their kids to kindergarten for the full day next year.
More than 200 additional schools will offer full-day kindergarten starting in September 2011. This is in addition to nearly 600 schools that will offer the program for the first time this fall.
The complete list of schools that will offer full-day kindergarten is available at Ontario.ca/EarlyLearning. All elementary schools should have full-day kindergarten by 2015-16.
Full-day kindergarten is an important part of the government’s Open Ontario Plan. It provides kids with a strong foundation for future learning, so they can go on to postsecondary education and get a good job. Full-day kindergarten and seamless before- and after-school programs will also help busy parents save time and money.

- Up to 50,000 four- and five-year-olds in nearly 800 schools will attend full-day kindergarten starting in September 2011.
- The government is providing approximately $245 million to school boards to build new classrooms and renovate existing ones over the next two years.
- Full-day kindergarten will include optional integrated before- and after-school programs in which parents can choose to enrol their child for a reasonable fee.
