Ontarians Convicted For Possession Of Unmarked Cigarettes

Four individuals were found guilty and fined a total of $2,800 for possession of 10,260 unmarked cigarettes in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cayuga on June 4, 2010.

Each of the individuals was charged by the Ministry of Revenue’s Special Investigations Branch in separate incidents during which the Ontario Provincial Police stopped vehicles and found unmarked cigarettes.

  • Bernard Morrissey of Etobicoke pleaded guilty to possession of 2,200 unmarked cigarettes. He was fined $1,000 and must pay $125 to the Victims’ Justice Fund.
  • Joel Brant of Hamilton pleaded guilty to possession of 2,460 unmarked cigarettes. He was fined $700 and must pay $125 to the Victims’ Justice Fund.
  • Michel Langelier of Burlington pleaded guilty to possession of 3,000 unmarked cigarettes. He was fined $600 and must pay $125 to the Victims’ Justice Fund.
  • Crystal Berriault of Niagara Falls pleaded guilty to possession of 2,600 unmarked cigarettes. She was fined $500 and must pay $110 to the Victims’ Justice Fund.

The seized illegal cigarettes were forfeited to the Ontario government.
