WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES THIS MONTH…

  • Thanks to Wayne Jarvis (Woknrolls) for the delicious eggrolls he brought to the Manitouwadge Business Association’s June meeting. We will never look at other eggrolls in quite the same way!  In July, his 8×20 concession trailer arrives, hopefully in time to be introduced at the Terrace Bay Dragfest as he & Peggy will be selling there and at Live from the Rock,  Congratulations, Wayne!

  • Congrats also to Jim Moffat who has picked up the Vachon Distributorship for the Manitouwadge-Marathon-White River region, with Dubreuilville-Wawa-Chapleau to follow.

  • OntarioNewsNorth.com is the first entirely on-line member of the Ontario Press Council. Well done Karina Hunter…stick a huge feather in your summer cap!

  • Sue Partridge is now taking bookings for her Fall Classes at Needles & Threads (ph4263).

  • At the invitation of the Manitou Snow Drifters, I attended their AGM.  The future of organized snowmobiling in Manitouwadge was discussed at length.  Interestingly enough this is not a “club” but an incorporated business, and is struggling like many others.  Let’s support them as best we can, especially their volunteers.  The MBA will be given advance notice of scheduled events.  Thanks to Ron Jung and the Manitou Snow Drifters for this courtesy.

  • Roll out the welcome mat, we have another new member: Suzanne Matheson of Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has jumped right into the deep end and will be involved with the MBA Saturday Outdoor Market…the first will happen July 17.

  • Anyone looking for promotional items would be wise to stop by the Echo office and check out their supply of Manitouwadge trinkets.  Priced to move!

  • The Trade Show is September 17/18, and preparations are well underway, with advertising for exhibitors in OntarioNewsNorth.com, CFNO, and the Echo. Packages are also being sent electronically to Chambers of Commerce and business organizations from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay. Exhibitor Package can be viewed or printed by CLICKING HERE.  Book your booth prior to July 15 and be entered into a draw to win back the fee!  Final registration date is August 6.  Businesses are urged to keep this on the front burner!  We’ll change directions in August and begin promoting the Show to the public.

  • Please remember that the EDO is gathering items from businesses to be placed in Welcome Packages to new residents.

  • Next MBA meeting Tue. July 20, 7 pm. Happy Birthday Canada!

MBA Monthly Business Showcase:

HAWBERRY FIELDS Home & Property Care

Maggie Schutt (yes, yours truly) brought this sole proprietorship with her from Manitoulin Island when she and her husband moved to Manitouwadge late last summer.

In a nutshell, my business is to manage your property when you are away. Albeit over a weekend caring for your pet, for a couple of weeks tending the gardens while you’re on vacation, or for the entire winter providing proper surveillance, handling the bills and guaranteeing your peace of mind.  Whichever scenario, you return home to a welcoming atmosphere complete with fresh provisions, hot water, a television signal, plus there won’t be a stack of Ad Bags hanging from your doorknob!

Hospitality is the name of my game!

Peripheral offerings include Home Staging, Relocation Assistance, Rental Management, and Construction/Renovations (my husband is a skilled carpenter with 35 yrs of residential and commercial construction experience under his tool belt).  It would be prudent to review your homeowner insurance policy and check for that all-important small print which might say your home must be entered and checked thoroughly every four (4!) days during your absence.

Ask yourself…do your neighbours really want the responsibility when you go away?  Do you really want to impose such a burden on them?

Hawberry Fields offers you a reasonable alternative. One final word to those of you who enjoy Beatles music:  “forever”.
