MANITOUWADGE, ON – 34 Students returned their tracking sheets to Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) Public Health Nurse (PHN) and Turn Off the Screens Week (TOTS) Organizer Jackie Jung, for a chance to win some incredible prizes.

Grand Prize winner of the $100.00+ sports pack – Anthony Bellerose, École Publique Franco-Manitou 2nd prize – Julia Gervais, Our Lady of Lourdes

3rd prize – Lexie Lalonde from Manitouwadge Public School

For those who are wondering, no, Mrs. Jung did not have a system in place to ensure that there was a winner from each school, it just worked out that way, “lovely” as she put it! But what Jung was more excited about was that each of the students who returned their tracking sheets would be receiving a prize!

“It was a wonderful week and I thank everyone for their support” said Jung who has transformed this week into a true ‘Community Event” over the year.

Final attendance numbers for individual activities were:

  • Lob Ball Game 21 out of all ages!!,
  • Book Detective gave out 14 booklets and got 7 back.
  • Fun Run – 205 people,
  • Family Olympics – 13 kids and 8 adults,
  • Badminton ?? but was lined out the door, **From the Editor, ONN – I would venture to guess nearly 40 through the night judging from what I heard and saw.
  • Firefighters 50 kids, 2 adults & 8 Firefighters,
  • Nursery School had 5 families out,
  • Golf had 10 soggy participants,
  • Mystery Poker Walk had 20 kids and 17 adults and
  • Perry Lake had over 30 troopers in the pouring rain.

That adds up to a lot of dark TVs and computer screens in Manitouwadge throughout the course of one week!

Thanks to Jackie Jung for all her hard work organizing the 2010 Turn Off the Screens Week challenge, our commnity is a better, healthier place for it!
