MANITOUWADGE, ON – Tuesday, June 9th, Manitouwadge residents came out to the Recreation Centre en masse to participate in the 2010 Annual Turn off the Screens Week Fun Run for Heart. Registration took place in the lobby where participants signed in as either Adults & Pre-schoolers or students from one of the four local schools; they were given a map of the 1km route which took them down Manitou road, up Neebig Ave and finally a short walk up the hill on Oshweeken Road past the traffic circle finished it off.
Upon completion of the route participants returned to the recreation centre lobby to enjoy a ‘Mr.Freeze’ provided by the township and enter their name with TBDHU 2010 TOTS Week organizer, Public Health Nurse Jackie Jung RN, for prizes provided by Fun Run for Heart sponsor Manitouwadge Diabetes Health and Wellness Program (Certified Diabetes Educator for MDHWP is yet another of the hats worn by Jung).
At 8pm, when all walkers, bikers and roller bladers had completed the Fun Run, prizes were drawn by TBDHU TOTS Week organizer PHN Jackie Jung, RN with the help of volunteer Nathalie Labbee; kids crowded the table with fingers crossed as there were more than 50 prizes drawn including major prizes of a $50 gift certificate for Secondary School students won by Lloyd White, a camera, worth more than $100 drawn for the elementary students and a fleece 2 in 1 fleece Play in the Extreme coat/vest (donated by the township) for one lucky adult.
