Village GRAND OPENING!
Village Under New Ownership
by Karina Hunter
Manitouwadge residents who haven’t already, will be happy to note that the Village Pizzeria & Submarines had its Grand Opening (or re-opening) Saturday, May 8th. New owners/operators Trent Pickett and Amanda Lamothe worked diligently over the past weeks, doing extensive renovations, and were thrilled to welcome many customers in for today’s opening as news quickly traveled around town that Sophie’s original sauce recipe was back at the Village!
What else have Pickett and Lamothe brought back? To be honest, not a lot, there are many changes at the ‘new’ Village. Sub-sandwiches are still on the menu though they are now made with fresh buns, “We believe it’s important to try and keep as many of our purchases local as possible” explained Lamothe in regards to the sub buns which are made fresh at Rouselle’s Valu-Mart each morning. Sauces, including as mentioned Sophie’s original recipe pizza sauce, are homemade by the pair. I watched, mouth watering, as Pickett loaded freshly cut toppings on to a ‘Kitchen Sink Pizza’ which was ordered while I was their and includes some of all the toppings they offer, finishing it off with a traditional Italian ‘pizza bun’ (so the toppings don’t stick to the box, watch out, this will certainly cause food frenzy in many homes as the kids argue over whose turn it is to eat the pizza bun!) before loading it into the oven.
If I’ve done my job and your mouth is now watering, call 826-2626 to order – delivery is just $5! Or go visit them at the Village Pizzeria and Subs they still welcome eat-ins as well. And hey, tell them OntarioNewsNorth.com sent you, maybe if enough people do I’ll be eating pizza for Mother’s Day! (That’s a medium, ½ pep & cheese – ½ pep & mushrooms-no cheese J).
**If Amanda’s name rings a bell it’s because she’s also the owner of MJ’s Hair Salon, Wow! That’s one busy businesswoman!
The “new” Village Pizzeria & Submarines is open 7 days a week:
Sundays – Thursdays 11am – Midnight
Fridays & Saturdays 11am – 3am

New Business in Manitouwadge
by Karina Hunter
News traveled quickly in Manitouwadge this weekend as word got around that a business which had closed last month, the Village Pizzeria & Submarines, has re-opened under new ownership. New owners/operators Trent Pickett and Amanda Lamothe worked diligently over the past weeks, completing more than $7000 of renovations, in time for their scheduled Grand Opening, Saturday, May 8th.
Pickett and Lamothe have kept the eatery’s menu rather similar to the old one though ingredients have changed drastically. Submarine sandwiches are still on the menu though they are now made with fresh buns, “We believe it’s important to try and keep as many of our purchases local as possible” explained Lamothe in regards to the sub buns which they are receiving daily from local grocer Rouselle’s Valu-Mart where they are made fresh each morning. Sauces are homemade by the pair and toppings are cut by hand which means they are significantly thicker than usual restaurant pizza toppings. They are also the first Manitouwadge restaurant in recent memory to finish off their pizzas with a traditional Italian ‘pizza bun’ (ball of dough in the centre of the pizza which in addition to being a tasty treat, helps keep the pizza box lid from sticking to the cheese).
Lamothe is also the owner of MJ’s Hair Salon in Manitouwadge and will definitely have her hands full, as she and Pickett hope to be the primary employees at the pizzeria.
