UPDATE – Northshore Relay Life
Northshore Relay for Life in need of Sponsors
by Karina Hunter
The Northshore Relay for Life committee, 14 volunteers chaired by Suzanne Matheson, met in Manitouwadge at the boardroom of the General Hospital Tuesday evening to discuss progress and identify tasks yet to be assigned to a specific volunteer or team. Sitting in n the meeting were representatives of the Canadian Cancer Society; Thunder Bay Unit Fundraising Coordinator Dana Levanto and Pat Ramirez, Area Manger, Northwest Region, the ladies attended the meeting to offer Relay volunteers support, suggestions and solutions in regards to the event which is quickly approaching.
There are varying sponsorship levels available; among the elements not yet sponsored during the 12 hour walk is the Survivors BBQ. A private reunion which takes place prior to the field being open to the public, the barbecue is an important part of the relay as it offers survivors to meet other survivors, to celebrate their victories and support them looking towards a future which is hopefully cancer free. Dubreuilville, White River, Pic Mobert, Heron Bay, Pic River, Marathon, Schreiber, Terrace Bay and Pays Plat residents and businesses are reminded that this is the NORTHSHORE Relay for Life, last year we had good representation from other communities but organizers hope to increase this significantly for the July 11th, 2010 Relay, there are no town limits that stop cancer, funds raised by the Canadian Caner Society help all of the Northoshore
Levanto also stressed that there is plenty of time left to register a team; remember, you do not have to be a cancer survivor to enter a team, just someone who wants to make a difference and is prepared to stay up through the night having fun to do so.
LUMINARIES: The bags in which candles are lit as part of a night long vigil remembering those lost and honouring those who have survived the battle against cancer, are now on sale for $5/ea and available at NAPA Auto in Manitouwadge or at ** in Marathon. If you would like to personalize your luminary, please ensure it is returned to NAPA by June 4th.
If you have any questions regards to the Relay, participation or sponsorship, please contact Suzanne Matheson at 826-4070.
