McGuinty Government Honours Educator Excellence
Behind every great student is a strong team to help them succeed.
Today 24 educators and school support staff received the Premier’s Awards for Teaching Excellence for their contributions to student achievement.
Premier Dalton McGuinty presented the awards to people who help bring out the best in Ontario students in many different ways. This year’s honourees include a teacher who gets students involved in projects to support struggling families, a school custodian who coaches sports and organizes charitable events, and a superintendent who champions the needs of deaf and blind students.
Eighty-two people have received awards since they were created four years ago.

- The Premier’s Awards for Teaching Excellence ceremony is held during Education Week.
- There are six award categories: Teacher of the Year, New Teacher of the Year, Excellent Support Staff, Excellence in Leadership, Team of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.
- An independent selection panel reviewed the nominations to select award recipients. The panel was chaired by Cheryl Jackson, host of “Your Voice” on TVO, and included a parent, principal, student, support staff member and a teacher.
