PREVENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

McGuinty Government Promoting Awareness, Prevention and Recovery
The Ontario government is helping eighteen not-for-profit groups in the ridings of Thunder Bay-Atikokan and Thunder Bay-Superior North, to make life safer for women and children.
These organizations focus on raising public awareness, training staff and offering information, workshops and shelter to victims of domestic violence, who are overwhelmingly women.
This year, organizations in Thunder Bay-Atikokan and Thunder Bay-Superior North will receive a total of $53,300 to run programs and buy resources and equipment. The grants are provided through the Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative.

- In 2009-2010, the Violence against Women Prevention Initiative is providing 94 organizations in Northern Ontario with a total of $280,000 for programs, resources and equipment.
- May is Sexual Assault Prevention Month in Ontario.
