Marathon Vehicular Collision

SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(MARATHON, ON.) –On May 10, 2010 at 07:48am the Marathon  OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 17 approximately 2 km West of Neys Provincial Park.

A tractor trailer travelling East bound left the roadway on a curve first contacting with the guard rails then came to rest blocking the East bound lane after colliding with a rock face. The single male occupant of the truck obtained serious but non life threatening injuries and was transported to Wilson Memorial General Hospital. The male was later transferred to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center for further treatment.

Clean up of the site continued until 8:00pm Monday night causing some traffic delays. The clean up will continue today but traffic delays should be minimal. Police ask the public travelling this area to drive with caution and be alert for slowed traffic due to this clean up. Please also be alert for the construction areas and obey the speed signs posted in these areas.

The OPP are continuing their investigation regarding this collision.
