McGuinty Government Pays Tribute To Local Hero
The Current River Bridge on Highway 11/17 in Thunder Bay has been officially dedicated in the memory of Constable John S. Kusznier who died in the line of duty.
Constable Kusznier died on January 15, 1978, while responding to a disturbance in the parking lot of a local nightclub. Constable Kusznier encountered two men armed with handguns and an exchange of gunfire took place. Constable Kusznier suffered a fatal wound.
A memorial sign with the fallen officer’s name and police service crest has been posted at each end of the bridge.
