Eight Ontarians Appointed To Lead College of Trades

Ontario is taking the first step to create a governing body for the province’s apprenticeship training and skilled trades system.  Eight industry leaders have been selected by the government to the Appointments Council of the Ontario College of Trades.The College of Trades will be a regulatory body that gives industry a greater role in recruitment, governance, certification and apprenticeship training. This will build on the significant role skilled trades already play in Ontario’s prosperity.   It will also give the skilled trades a professional regulatory body similar to teachers, doctors and nurses. 

The Appointments Council will make appointments to the governance structure of the college, including the board of governors, divisional boards, trade boards and adjudicators for review panels. In addition, the council will act as the college’s transitional board of governors and will begin to give industry a greater role in the governance of the apprenticeship training system and the promotion of careers in the skilled trades.
