Spring Fling Variety Showcase

This weekend in Manitouwadge, there’s something to sing about!

by Natalie Labbée

Natalie Labbée's shares her sultry vocals at the Christmas Community Showcase this past December.

There’s something new and special happening in Manitouwadge at the high school auditorium this Sunday, May 2nd.  Nite on the Town Entertainment Series (NOTTES) is presenting what the group hopes to become an annual fundraising event.  The Spring Fling Variety Showcase will feature a variety of local musicians and acts including those from Heron Bay and Marathon.  The idea for the Spring Fling follows the success of the Christmas Variety Nite held this past December to a full house at the Manitouwadge High School Auditorium which raised money and food donations for the local Food Bank as well as the highly successful Frosty Days Cabaret Night in February.  Residents (many NEW to town!) came out to both of these events and said how pleased they were that Manitouwadge was keeping the arts alive and how important it is to feel part of a community; and that is exactly what events like this do for our town – they give a sense of community pride and belonging because Everyone is Welcome!

Although NOTTES receives some annual subsidies from the Ontario Arts Council as well as the Canadian Heritage Fresh Start Program, those funds are only minimal contributions to the total cost of sustaining an Entertainment Series of this caliber, thus the need for fundraising initiatives to take centre stage.

In addition to the Spring Fling, NOTTES is hosting a special presentation of the Northshore Chamber Choir featuring over 40 performers on Saturday, May 29.  Admission will be a free-will donation.  The show is called “Strolling Down Broadway” introducing CFNO’s Al Cresswell as the Narrator!

NOTTES is also hoping to organize an all day Music Fest at Lion’s Beach on Canada Day in conjunction with the Township activities which will hopefully see all residents and visitors participate in.

NOTTES 2010-11 Series ofperformances is scheduled to start in late September with one act left to confirm before tickets can be sold, but it promises to be an amazing line-up! Look for more upcoming details!

This Sunday, help welcome new band from Heron Bay “Hwy 627”, Wooley & The Mammoths from Marathon, Erica Magsen & Band, former Six Pak band members, Wasted Mammoths, some of the Manitouwadge Line Dancers and more to entertain you for the afternoon!  It promises to give you a spring in your step!
