Funding for White River
Ontario Helps Renovate White River Community Centre
Gravelle and Brown announce funding in White River
The McGuinty Government continues to announce strategies and funding which assist in building communities and supporting their economic development. Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Brown and Minister of Northern Development, Mines and Forests the Hon. Michael Gravelle traveled to White River April 22, to announce $664, 840 in funding from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) which will allow for major upgrades to the community’s Recreation Centre. The project includes improved seating, lighting, a new scoreboard, a woman’s change room and other recreation centre system improvements; this will make it easier for residents to use the space. The work will also give a much needed boost to the local economy.
Among those in attendance were delegates from the NOMA AGM & Conference who traveled, via two school buses; these included White River Mayor Angelo Bazzoni, Manitouwadge Mayor John MacEachern and councilors, and others affected by the announcements made (this is one of two, the other relating to funds being received by the Northeast Superior Forest Community Corporation follow OntarioNewsNorth.com this week for details) .
When complete, this multi-use facility will be better equipped to support community activities such as hockey, curling, weddings, club meetings and festivals and of course welcome teams from neighbouring communities for events and tournaments.
